The best time to visit is from November through February during the official Rann Utsav. During these winter months, the monsoon seawater has completely evaporated, leaving a dry, crystal-white salt crust. Temperatures range from a pleasant 25°C in the afternoon to a crisp 12°C at night.
The gateway city is Bhuj, located approximately 85 km (1.5 hours) from Dhordo. Bhuj is well-connected by domestic flights from Mumbai and Delhi, and by express trains from Ahmedabad and major Indian hubs. Harsh Holidays arranges private chauffeur pick-ups directly from Bhuj airport/railway station or from Ahmedabad.
Yes, because the Great Rann of Kutch is situated near the international border, all domestic and international travelers require a border permit issued at the Bhirandiyara checkpost or online through the Gujarat Police tourism portal. Harsh Holidays arranges all permit formalities on your behalf as part of your package.
Pack comfortable cotton clothes for sunny afternoons, sunglasses and sunscreen for the bright salt reflection, and warm woolens or jackets for the chilly desert nights. Also bring comfortable walking shoes for walking onto the salt flats.
